Teaching

If you want lessons on the clarinet, saxophone, flute or recorder then you have come to the right place!

I am a peripatetic woodwind teacher working in 6 schools in North Wiltshire. I teach the clarinet, saxophone, flute and recorder to individuals and small groups from year 2 - 13. I also teach adults of any age and ability. These lessons are usually in the evenings.

When local or Government Covid-19 restricitons are in place, my lessons are taught online. Please look at the 'Zoom lessons' page for more information about this.

I have been teaching woodwind instruments since 2008, firstly for Surrey Music Service, then for Wiltshire Music Service and more recently as a self-employed teacher.

As well as my one to one and small group lessons, I enjoy teaching whole classes. I have taught numerous groups to play the recorder, clarinet and JSax. I am passionate about this 'grass roots' teaching and aim to provide a comprehensive introduction to music that is fun and achievable for everyone.

If you are interested in learning one of these instruments either face to face or through online lessons then please send me a message on the 'contact me' page.

Music Coordinator at Keevil Primary School

In September 2015 I became the Music Coordinator for Keevil Primary School. As well as weekly lessons with each year group, I also take the lead with any singing needed in productions and assemblies throughout the year.

Since taking on this role I have started a KS2 choir, band and recorder club. The school choir has taken part in the Trowbridge Music Festival on several occasions.

I really enjoy being part of this school and I hope that the musical foundation I provide will encourage more children to learn music at Secondary School.

Independent Schools and Academys

Between 2012-15, I was the clarinet and saxophone teacher at Hoe Bridge Prep School in Woking, Surrey. This is a large school with an active, vibrant music department. As well as teaching, I also ran a clarinet and saxophone ensemble. As this was a mixed ability group, I arranged all the music from full windband scores.

Other independent schools that I have worked at include Heywood Prep School, Corsham and Stonar School.

in 2015, I worked as a cover teacher at the Malmesbury Music Academy, when the regular clarinet and saxophone teachers were unavailable. This is a Saturday morning music school for children and adults held at Malmesbury Primary School. I also  conducted a small saxophone and clarinet ensemble.

Ensembles

Over the years I have been a conductor/tutor for several ensembles. These range from flute and clarinet choirs, to local bands and County ensembles.

Between 2010-2015 I was an instructor in the Air Training Corps and was involved with Cadet marching bands at a number of different levels. I have held the Bandmaster position for Squadron, Wing, Region and National ensembles.  During my time with the National Marching Band, they performed several high profile events such as:

  • The Royal International Air Tattoo

  • Birmingham Military Tattoo

  • Disneyland Paris

  • Rugby Matches at Twickenham

  • London Parades.
